Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
